Content & Submission Guidelines
Writer Qualifications
You may submit up to 3 pieces per issue of HEM
Works must be written in English
To be eligible, the writer must currently be a student (High School or College), of Indian Origin.
We do not accept pieces that have been published anywhere else (this includes personal blogs and school magazines)
We accept simultaneous submissions. Please inform us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
We only accept online submissions.
Genres:
Short fiction/Monologues (maximum 1750 words)
Poetry (maximum 5 pages, single-spaced)
Literary/Creative Nonfiction (maximum 1750 words)
Opinion pieces/Commentary on Current Affairs (maximum 1500 words)
Reports on Bias, Stereotypes, Culture etc (maximum 1500 words)
General Guidelines:
Try to limit profanity in your writing. We will not require you to remove it from your work. However, keep in mind that profanity has a strong impact on the audience and does not need to be used frequently to do so.
Submissions should be single-spaced
All submissions should be in Times New Roman, Font size 12
Editing and Rights
By submitting to HEM you are giving us the right to publish your work online along with the other submissions and for promotional purposes
We will retain exclusive, worldwide first publication rights for your piece
Neither the magazine nor any person who has worked with the magazine is responsible for an opinion that is published online. As the writer, you must take full responsibility for your opinions.
Please do not submit your work if you are not open to editing.
At least two editors will comment on your piece. You will receive feedback regardless of whether your piece is chosen for publication or not
All editing will be collaborative and the writer will be involved in the process
